A good imagination

As a kid, like most, I had an overactive imagination. There was a house on the corner that everyone thought was haunted. We thought it was haunted because there was hardly any evidence that anyone lived there and the grass never seemed to be cut. Furthermore, there never seemed to be any lights on. It wasn’t until I grew up and became an HVAC technician that I revisited the home and found out the truth. One day, when I received a service call, I had to do a double-take when I recognized the address. The owners at the address wanted a brand new heating system, air conditioning system, air purifier, and they even wanted me to check the old ductwork to see if it needed to be completely replaced. When I arrived at the house it seemed spookier than I had even remembered, and I half expected Lurch from The Addams Family to answer the door. I heard a squeal and a little girl opened the door. She took a look at me and then screamed to her mom that the 8-track technician had arrived. I laughed when she said 8-track technician and said that it was actually the HVAC technician that arrived. As her dad was heading over to greet me, she told me that her and her parents had recently moved into this house, and that it formerly belonged to her grandparents. When I finally saw the dad, I vaguely recognized him. He told me that back in the day, he hadn’t ended up making very many friends with the neighborhood kids, because they thought his house was genuinely haunted. He showed me around the house, which I realized was quite beautiful inside. Then, we talked about the various HVAC installations that I would be doing that day.
