It was New Years, 2008, and I had invited almost 200 bizarre friends and acquaintances over to my brand new home for a bash to ring in the new year together.
On the morning of my big blowout, I had woken up and began preparing for the night ahead by rapidly preparing popcorn, making sure dishes were clean, and everything in my place was presentable. Only a few minutes into preparation, I noticed it was way nippier indoors than usual, so I went and turned up the temperature control and carried on with my activities. A couple moments later, there was zero difference in temperature, and I realized the heating system was not really working. Panic ensued as I realized it was hastily getting freezing indoors and guests would be arriving in only a few short hours. Amazingly, I had got a neighbour to recommend myself and others a brand new heating servicemen and he arrived within 20 minutes. I was visibly tied up as I explained the situation without breathing. He literally took 25 minutes to diagnose the issue and repair it with a single brand new part, and give myself and others a seriously reasonable bill for the whole ordeal. The problem arose from not getting it maintained in years (that was completelymy bad) and he reminded myself and others of the importance of getting your heating and gas furnace idea regularly maintained before Winter weather and cold temperatures to be safe. The first guests walked inside and promptly said ‘ooo it’s hot in here’… I laughed heartily and kept the story to myself.
