Dealing with guests can be a huge nightmare

I started working at the hotel 3 years ago.

  • Back then, I was working as a housekeeper.

It was my responsibility to clean the bathrooms, empty the trash, and make the bed. I spent six months working very hard before I finally received a promotion. My first promotion was the head of housekeeping. It was a nice job because I finally had full-time hours. Since I was a manager, I also received benefits like dental, vision, and health. After a year, the owner of the hotel offered to make me the manager. I knew the job would come with a lot of headaches, but every day seems worse than the previous. I have been the manager for the past six months, and I deal with problem after problem. This week, all of the AC units on the second floor stopped working. We had nine rooms rented on the second floor, and every one of the guests were upset about the AC unit problems. I couldn’t blame any of the guests for complaining, because I would be upset as well. The temperature outside is around 80 degrees, and I think it is necessary to run the AC in order to be comfortable. I offered to move all of the guests to a different room, but a few of them demanded a refund. We lost almost $1,000 due to the problem with the AC units. Our maintenance staff is lost, and the owner of the hotel is dragging her feet. Her answer to the problem is to keep those rooms vacant right now. That won’t be helpful when our busy season is around the corner.
