Don’t mess up your duct work like I did

A lot of people regularly working in the HVAC field focus their days on heating & air conditioner projects.

I also am personally in the HVAC field as a sheet metal mechanic.

I have already been in the welding industry for the past 10 years. I decided a long time ago to take a task fabricating sheet metal into ductwork for a local crew. It is an interesting task & most of our afternoons are sincerely filled with something different and interesting. A few weeks ago, I was easily working on a big project located at the new site of the hospital. All of us are dedicatedly working on installing ductwork inside of all of the operating rooms on site. I easily messed up a single afternoon, when I went and measured all of the distances inaccurately. I constantly acquired the knowledge to measure twice & cut once, even though I only measured the materials once on that afternoon. I thought I was cutting the sheet metal to a single length of 17 ft. Unfortunately, the sheet metal was really supposed to be cut to a length of 19 feet. If the ductwork work needed to be shorter, our mistake would be fine. Unfortunately, the two of us had to throw away all of the busted up sheet metal that I cut inproperly. My boss yelled at me and told me a ton of insulting rudimentary information after he found out about the error. I had to replace the materials and air duct myself. Next time, I don’t think I’ll make this mistake.
