Finding wasteful HVAC spots on the exterior of my home

I sort of like to save money.

Even more, I like to save money on stuff that is a necessity and essential to my life.

I don’t know why that is so appealing to me. Perhaps it’s because I often feel like such necessities as food, basic clothing, shelter and heating & cooling should be less of a commodity. That may sound crazy. It’s just that I feel like as wealthy as this country is, stuff like heating my house just shouldn’t be as expensive as it is. And at this rate, I don’t know exactly how long the current heating price structure can last. There are people in my neighborhood who have to choose medicine or food over paying the heating bill. So, it gives me great pleasure to beat back HVAC heating costs and give those savings to people who need it. My biggest weapons in that fight are the instant read temp gun and the caulk gun. Each fall, once the temps drop enough for the HVAC furnace to kick on, I go outside to survey the exterior of my home. It’s a cat and mouse sort of thing as I creep over every inch of the exterior of the house. But, I find, mark and then seal each and every gap I can find. This keeps the HVAC treated air on the inside and the cold on the outside. Of course, I make sure we have good weather stripping, insulation and proper storm doors and windows. This rounds out my efforts to keep a good seal on my house and save those HVAC heating dollars.
