I overheard a funny conversation between my grandma and grandpa the other day.
They were discussing the existence of female HVAC technicians. My grandma was telling Grandpa that she had actually seen a female HVAC technician at her friend’s house recently. Grandpa asked if she had ever seen a female HVAC technician prior to this. She shook her head no and said that she had never seen Santa Claus before either, but she knew he existed. Grandpa was bewildered as he walked out of the room shaking his head. Later on, I heard Grandma complaining to herself in the family room, so I walked over to see what she was doing. She told me about how old men were so stubborn, because they didn’t believe that women could do anything but cook and clean and marry old goats like Grandpa. I laughed at what she said, but she gave me a stern look and said that when I get married, I may very well find myself in very similar circumstances. I teased her by saying that when I got older, I had every intention of becoming a female HVAC technician and not marrying old goats. That made Grandma burst out into laughter. By the time she composed herself, there were tears streaming down her cheek as she hugged me. She said that she really hoped that I would become a female HVAC technician so that she could show me off to Grandpa to settle the argument once and for all.
