I shouldn’t have given my buddies access to my smart thermostat

I was going nuts the other day when my temperature control system seemed to be going haywire.

  • I always set my temperature control anywhere between 70 and 73 degrees, but it kept going down to the 60s and then up to the 80s, and this seemed to be random.

It was like the temperature control developed a mind of its own and I had no idea what was going on. I finally reached out to the HVAC company and had an HVAC technician come out. While he was checking my temperature control, he wasn’t able to find out anything wrong with it at first. Then the temperature control settings changed right before his eyes and he realized that somebody must have had access to the temperature control unit. He asked me if I gave anybody else access to it. I felt stupid when he asked this question, because I actually did give my buddies access to it, and it just so happened to be April 1st. They always would get me somehow on April Fool’s day. Before the HVAC technician even left, they came banging on the door and were laughing at me. Even the HVAC technician was laughing, but then he quit laughing and said he still had to charge me for the repair call. I was a little disappointed, but I was at least happy that I knew my smart thermostat was working fine. I decided to change the passcode on the thermostat after that so only I had access to the temperature control settings and I would never have to worry about this happening again.
