I never fully appreciated using my air conditioning equipment until I went to a less-than-glamorous motel a few months ago while on a long drive across the midwest. Back at home, you know I had my air conditioning equipment installed by a reputable Heating, Ventilation, and A/C specialist so I wouldn’t doubt my purchase, and I get it maintained each year before the summer so the AC always works beautifully. The routine of getting it maintained, and then enjoying a truly comfortable Summer with my air conditioning equipment was so passe, that frankly, I took the equipment and the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C serviceman who I hired each year completely for granted. It all changed when I reserved this motel room. I walked in and was right away hit in the chest by a wall of humid heat, and an obnoxious whirring sound that sounded as if a seasoned truck was parked inside the room. ‘Why is it so hot, and what is that terrible sound?’I thought. Then, my first instinct was to turn on the air conditioning. When I finally pressed the power button, the noise stopped, and I realized for the first time that I had easily turned the air conditioning off. It turns out, the noise was the sound of it running the whole time. So not only was it not doing really anything to stop the heat, however it was also loud as hell in that room. It’s amazing that anyone on earth has an AC unit without a routine checkup from their Heating, Ventilation, and A/C specialists to maintain their air conditioning and to update ineffective A/C units. It surely affected the success of this business, who absolutely can not charge high prices for sad souls to suffer in that sauna of a motel room.
