My car's AC just stopped working

I’ve been driving this old car for quite a few years now.

It’s a sedan that I got from my uncle because it was sitting in his garage and used for several years.

I thought it would be better to have a car that hadn’t been driven in a while, but I learned from other people that this isn’t always the case. Unfortunately belts can get brittle when they’re not being used, and fluids can settle and harden inside various injection systems throughout the vehicle if it’s not being driven regularly. So that’s one of the disadvantages of trying to buy or use a car that is sat unused for long periods of time. Unfortunately, I didn’t really have a choice in the matter. There weren’t a lot of other options to me if I didn’t want to spend twice as much money for a similar car within a similar condition. Honestly, this car has gotten me through life for the last couple of years well enough. I can’t make too many complaints, but the air conditioner and heater leave a lot to be desired. Even when both were working when I first got the car, their air conditioner wasn’t very strong and the heater would leave me shivering during the winter season. I eventually fixed the heater because it seems like more of a necessity than the air conditioner. But recently my air conditioner has quit working all together. Unfortunately, I don’t have the money yet to get the car’s AC repaired. I was told that the minimum cost to fix the air conditioner would be well over $1,000.
