When my husband and I bought a new house, he said he would take care of the HVAC system maintenance.
I thought he would stay true to his word.
I think I only saw him change the air filter to the HVAC unit on one occasion, and that was it. When the air quality started to become really bad in the house, I was getting on his case about the HVAC system maintenance. He kept lying saying that he was taking care of it and there was nothing to worry about. That’s when I decided to just call up the HVAC company. The HVAC technician pulled out the dirty air filter and said how terrible this was for the HVAC system. He said that the HVAC system could easily overheat or breakdown without proper air flow, and a clogged up air filter would not protect the HVAC unit. He was explaining that we were lucky that the HVAC system didn’t break down and develop any serious complications. He did say that if we continued to go on without changing the air filter, we would end up having to purchase a brand new HVAC system altogether. This actually shocked my husband because he didn’t want to have to pay some $3,000 plus to get a new HVAC system. He finally started changing the air filters regularly and I was happy that our air quality was finally good. I ended up telling him he should sign up for an HVAC service plan so he didn’t have to worry too much about keeping on top of the HVAC system maintenance.
