I was really proud of my baby brother when he finally bought a house with his wife.
Then one time when we went over to his place for dinner, I was really shocked about the awful air quality in his home.
I didn’t want to embarrass him so I asked him if we could step outside for a smoke. So while we were talking, I was asking him about his air filters in his HVAC unit and how often he was changing them. He gave me a blank expression like he didn’t know what I was talking about. It was that moment when I realized he wasn’t changing the air filters at all. I calmly told him how important it is to change the air filters, and he asked if I could show him how that was done. I said of course and asked if he even had any air filters, which of course he didn’t. After dinner, I took him to the hardware store to show him which air filters to get. He was saying how expensive those were and he was shocked that he would have to change them out every single month. I told him if he wanted to keep his HVAC unit in good condition and have good air quality in his home, this is what he had to do. So when we got back with the air filters, I showed him how to replace the air filter to the HVAC unit. He said it was easy enough and he thanked me for helping him out. He never had air quality issues after that.
