Stopping drafty ducts saves a ton on Heating, Ventilation, & A/C costs

I noticed during the last Winter that our natural gas furnace seemed to be staying on all the time.

It hardly ever went off. Luckily last Winter wasn’t too cold or anything. I was anxious that perhaps the natural gas furnace was failing. This was disconcerting on a number of levels given the fact that the natural gas furnace wasn’t even 8 years seasoned yet. We bought the beach house some 3 years ago & a single of the selling points was the fact that the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C equipment was still fairly new. So, before this Winter got going, I called the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C company to come out to do the maintenance but to really check the natural gas furnace out. The heating & cooling service tech did just that. He went over the natural gas furnace with a enjoyable tooth comb. The good news was that our natural gas furnace was okay & in good shape. There was bad news — there was a strange reason for the natural gas furnace running all winter. The Heating, Ventilation, & A/C guy told myself and others to spend a few bucks on a temperature gun & totally scour my beach beach house for gaps & cracks where the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C treated air was leaking out & cold air was coming in. I did that very thing. But, I was nearly overwhelmed with the results. Our beach house was riddled with many areas that were leaking out Heating, Ventilation, & A/C treated air. It was insane. But, I marked each of them & over multiple weeks, I was able to seal or insulate all of them. So far this winter, I have saved well over 30 percent on Heating, Ventilation, & A/C heating costs! And of course, the natural gas furnace isn’t running all the time anymore. I just wish that I had sealed up the beach house much sooner.
