The Kid can’t Control Himself!

I don’t know what I was thinking when I let my child have access to the smart thermostat, and he was saying that he should be allowed access during the times when my husband and I are not home.

I thought this was a sufficient reason because why shouldn’t he be allowed to be comfortable when the two of us are not home? Well, when he first started using the smart thermostat when the two of us were gone, he was mostly just playing with the temperature control settings.

He kept turning on the furnace and then would abruptly turn on the cooling system. He thought it was entirely cool how he could do that from just hitting the buttons on his Iphone. Well, he did this so often, he ended up causing the heating and A/C system to shut down! Luckily, it wasn’t anything too drastic and we were able to get the heating and A/C system fixed easily enough. I warned my child not to do anything like that again and told him that the smart app on his Iphone was not a video game. He said he understood and it wouldn’t happen again. I truthfully should have ended his access to the temperature control settings right then and there, however no, I let him continue to use it. Our heating and A/C system didn’t break down after that, however I did become furious when I saw the energy bills. I discovered that he was blasting the A/C consistently when the two of us were not home. He would put the temperature control settings at 65, and that is completely unacceptable! When I saw the energy bills, I finally took away his access to the temperature control. Now the two of us keep it locked in at around 75 degrees.
