My father is about 7 ft tall and his height has consistently been a setback. He regularly has to duck when going through doorways and periodically ceiling fans are a setback too. Even when he was a little one, he was over five feet tall already, and my father played hoops in high school since he was particularly tall, however he did not really appreciate the sport. He even played hoops in college so he could acquire a degree in engineering. My father consistently told me that height has been a real blessing and a curse. My parents basically had to get a custom furniture designer to make a bed that was long enough for my father’s legs. The custom furniture designer took my father’s measurements and they made a frame that was a little bit taller than most traditional bed frames. My father really appreciated the bed and it was the most comfy piece of furniture in the dwelling for a particularly long time. So many years ago, my mother called the same custom furniture designer to make a recliner for my father. My mother surprised my father for their anniversary. The custom furniture builder took close to 6 months to eventually finish the project, but it was precisely what my father wanted. When my mom surprised my father with the new recliner, he did not leave the home office for quite a few days. He rested in the leather chair and watched sports through the whole weekend. I realize it is safe to say that my mother chose the best gift when he chose to have a custom chair built for my father and his extremely long legs.
