The veterinarian clinic was too warm for the pets.

It was 5:00pm, and I thought my day was over when I suddenly got a call from a veterinarian clinic requesting an emergency air conditioning repair.

I turned around and headed right to the veterinary clinic.

When I arrived, everyone in the building was sweating, and the animals weren’t faring much better. The clinic’s receptionist greeted me and thanked me for making the repair. She’s said the sooner I got the air conditioner back up and running, the more comfortable her patients would be. I tried to ask for details about what had gone wrong with the air conditioner, but it was clear that the receptionist wasn’t very knowledgeable about such things. She merely mentioned that she had heard a loud noise when the air conditioner stopped working. It took me about an hour to assess the problem and another hour to fix it. By the time I’d finished working on the air conditioner, the place was closing down, and the only people remaining were a couple of veterinarians, the receptionist, and the animals that would have to stay overnight for treatment. The veterinarian thanked me profusely for fixing the air conditioner when I did. She mentioned that if I had not made the repairs as quickly as I had, then perhaps some of her animal patients would not have made it through the night. I was proud of myself for successfully fixing the air conditioner and saving the lives of some pets that evening. The next day, when I told the story to some of my co-workers, they actually laughed at me when I mentioned that I had saved lives. I didn’t think it was funny. I feel that animals deserve to be cared for, because that’s what a good human being does.
