Ups and downs of personal injury law

As a lawyer, my best friend has seen positives and negatives in his achievements and successes while working in law.

  • If the push through law school wasn’t bad enough, the first few years of working at a large business nearly pushed him into a breakdown.

Although my friend has lived in both Ann Arbor and Detroit, he has since settled into a law firm that works out of Southfield. At first he mostly worked in estate and family law, making wills, trusts, and estates for customers of all genders and age groups. The real lucrative field of law here in Detroit right now is personal injury, like car crash attorneys. A lot of people get out onto I-94 and drive like crazy with no sense of safety for themselves or others. My friend sees new situations on a biweekly basis, with some crashes arising out of pure negligence while others are inexplicable and ambiguous regarding who is the one at fault. Much of the time the cases are settled out of court during a talk between both parties. Some are lucky to get money for their medical bills from the opposing person’s insurance supplier, but my friend has seen as many cases where that didn’t work out. Some of these accidents around Southfield are quick and have few witnesses to make the cases believable and easy. It’s awful when you see someone physically hurt from a car accident that they didn’t do anything wrong. I wish there were more cameras on the road to prevent these kinds of things.
