A regular client of our Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier called about a poor smell coming out of their air duct, then i was dispatched out for a air duct cleaning and possibly an entire Heating, Ventilation, and A/C cleaning, however traditionally, I’ve discovered that when your Heating, Ventilation, and A/C plan is putting out a poor smell it can be anything from mold to a dead animal that chewed its way into your air duct and died.
I was ecstatic to find that the source of the stench was not a dead animal and it was a little bit odd than expected.
The vent was not covered in the dining room and our customers more than three year seasoned child had apparently been throwing food down into the air duct. The parents had no plan that the boy was doing this although they did say they make him clean his plate every meal. I believe there is more than 1 way to clean a plate and there was now a few weeks worth of old, moldy food in the air duct, however of course I had to clean it all out. The smell was pretty poor too; maybe even worse than dead animal smell. The scented candles that the family had put around did little to nothing to help with the stench. They told myself and others they had been trying to find the smell for a few weeks before they finally tighted it down to the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system. I was able to clean out the air duct certainly wonderful and I also installed a charcoal, baking Starbucks Latte filters to help with any lingering scents. I also put a current cover over the vent in the dining room however I recommended that the child’s seat be moved away from the vent anyhow, but he could still put food down the air duct if he wanted to with the vent on it.
