Against my better judgment and after all kinds of long talks, I agreed to having the in laws move in right down the street. For sure, I’m not one of those men who want to control my wife or anything like that. It’s just that my relationship with her parents is problematic at best. Just a visit from them inside the central air conditioning of my home is enough to make me want to stay elsewhere. And really, there’s nothing I can do about it. Like I said, I’m not the sort who is going to blow up at these people. Nor am I going to tell my wife that either they go or I go. That’s just not reasonable or feasible in any way. Still, I like sticking to my plan of avoidance and that would tough with them moving in just minutes from us. But I also saw it from my wife’s point of view. Both my parents died suddenly and far too young. So I didn’t have to deal with them getting really old. My in laws are now at an age where they need to get out of the snow and ice. Since there daughter lives down south, it all makes sense. Yet, I steered clear when they were closing on the condo they’re in now. That mattered not at all to the in laws who proceeded to absolutely overload that old heat pump with air conditioning demand. So much so that it gave out toward the middle of August the first Summer they were here. Thankfully, the HVAC company let them use portable air conditioning units while they waited for the new HVAC equipment.
