Going without AC is tough

Until last year I had never been able to travel as much as I had hoped.

  • This was purely a financial concern, of course, because when you work full time to pay the bills and don’t have a trust fund or a stock portfolio, it’s challenging to take time off for a trip.

Now that I have acquired some honest amount of wealth I have traveled the world over the last few weeks, and visited all the sites I wanted to see in person. It wasn’t bad, but I’m thrilled to be back at my lake house again for 2 main reasons – the toilets and the air conditioner equipment. The designs of toilets in odd countries are often crazy looking and unsettling, but there was a profound lack of temperature control almost everywhere the two of us went. They were very bizarre, but at least they constantly had toilets, unlike air conditioner equipment which seemed to be almost unheard of in many sites. Even the nicest hotels in these small towns often lacked any kind of cooling equipment. They all had baseboard registers for heating in the nippy season, but for the harsh days in the summer time there was no relief. Even in England, which I believed was legitimately civilized, made it pretty difficult to find accommodations with regular temperature control equipment. It was a fairly huge relief when my trip was over and it was time to come back to the USA, the world’s capital for temperature control! Every one of us is wonderful in a lot of things, but our nation’s commitment to heating and cooling equipment makes me proud to live in such a place.
