I’m always hard up for money so when I heard of a 1-time weekend gig that paid money at the end, I couldn’t resist reading more, but i found out that I would be 1 of those people holding advertising signs at street corners! How hard could it be? The pay was good, so I decided to go for it, and what I didn’t take into consideration was the fact that it was the middle of Summer in the south.
- I wasn’t particularly vulnerable to the heat, so I didn’t see a complication with resting outside for multiple hours.
It was a pretty miserable day; The un-even temperatures were in the high nineties and my corner had no shade. I was soaked with sweat the first hour out there, however all I could guess of was cool air conditioning, and by the second hour, I had taken a restroom cut at a fast food locale and took longer than necessary so that I could love that nice, cool air conditioning. Within three hours of starting, my back started to hurt and my thoughts drifted to myself and others kneeling in my number one chair at lake house enjoying the cool air conditioning. By hour four, the coordinator came by in his giant air conditioned truck so that I could cool off. I was so embarrassed. I had been feeling peaked and I guess he noticed when he came to check on me, because he invited myself and others into his truck for fifteen minutes to soak up some air conditioning unit. I found out later that he did that for everybody. Needless to say, I was happy at the end of the day to get lake house into my air conditioning.
