Tips to lower the monthly energy bill

The weather was already changing all around me, and I knew the cold season wasn’t too far away.

Where I lived, we’d experience brutal winters each year.

This is why many of the houses had extra insulation to keep everyone warm. However, in the months after the pandemic hit, I needed to cut back on my expenses. I knew I had to make some changes in the heating and cooling of the house. Otherwise, I’d end up with a hefty heating bill during winter. My friend and I were at a coffee shop discussing this issue about heating units when a guy seated next to us spoke out. He apologized for interfering in our conversation and introduced himself as an AC expert in the area. To our delight, he had a few tips that would help us ensure we didn’t get high energy bills during the long winter months. He worked for a local AC business and knew how important it was to cut back on expenses at such hard times. His first tip for us was to ensure we called an AC expert to come service the unit before winter. Servicing a heating system would ensure everything was running efficiently. Such units tend to use less energy to warm the house since the heating unit is clean and not struggling to let warm air in. Second, the heating expert advised us to have the air ducts of our houses inspected. Air ducts with air leaks would often force us to keep adjusting the thermostat because of cold spots. We’d ensure there was no warm air escaping from the house by getting further insulation. Third, he advised us to switch to smart thermostats, which were more agency efficient.
