My son has awful seasonal allergies so we always know come spring, to load up on the allergy medicine for him.
However, this year his allergies came incredibly early and we could not figure out why.
I gave the house a deep clean and dusting and he was still having issues. After some research I decided it was time to call in an HVAC professional to clean out our air conditioning unit and ducts. When the HVAC professional arrived, he did routine maintenance on the air conditioning unit and cleaned up the parts on the unit. He then moved on to cleaning out our ductwork and I am so glad I called him. We have two air filters in our home because it is quite large, but I always forget to change one because it is not as centrally located as the other. Well, that forgotten air filter was a huge cause for the allergens! It was caked with dust and debris. The HVAC professional also said it was a close call before mold started to build up in the ductwork because that air filter was so clogged, nothing was able to flow through except for the dust and debris. Within a few days of the HVAC professional coming to clean out our ductwork and replace our filters, my sons allergies were a million times better. I am so fortunate that I thought to call in an HVAC professional to take a look around for us! I will now be more diligent in changing that second air filter, even if it is a bit more out of the way in our home in order to prevent this scenario ever happening again!
