The sheriff kept all of the drugs and guns locked underground where none of the thieves could get to the loot. Working in the evidence locker is cold and lonely. There’s only one officer in the evidence Locker at a time and the indoor temperatures can be pretty cold. It’s already underground and the air conditioner runs at 68 degrees in order to make sure that none of the DNA samples are degraded. I was working in the evidence Locker a couple of weeks ago on the morning shift. I heard a very loud sound. It reminded me of a heavy steel door slamming shut. I got up from my desk and I started looking around. I searched through rows a, b, and c. I didn’t see anything except a lot of dust in the air. Once I was near the corner of the last hallway, I saw the reason for the noise. The ductwork from the ceiling had fallen to the floor. There was a pile of ductwork and rubble laying on the floor in the middle of the row. It looked like the county dump. I contacted my boss so they could send someone to clean up the mess. I had to stay at the desk, but they sent a couple of young patrol officers to clean up that mess. We were lucky that the ductwork did not cause any damage to any of the evidence that was stored down there.
