The strange noise was the HVAC duct falling

The police evidence chamber is underneath the 10th Precinct in the basement, this has been the location of the evidence locker since the time of the civil war.

The sheriff kept all of the drugs and guns locked underground where none of the thieves could get to the loot, and working in the evidence locker is frigid and lonely.

There’s only 1 officer in the evidence Locker at a time and the indoor temperatures can be pretty cold. It’s already underground and the air conditioner runs at 72 degrees in order to make sure that none of the DNA samples are degraded. I was toiling in the evidence Locker a couple of weeks ago on the day shift. I heard a legitimately loud sound. It reminded me of a heavy steel door slamming shut. I got up from my desk and I started looking around. I searched through rows a, b, and c. I didn’t see anything except a lot of dust in the air, once I was near the corner of the last hallway, I saw the reason for the noise. The HVAC duct from the ceiling had fallen to the floor. There was a pile of HVAC duct and rubble kneeling on the floor in the middle of the row. It looked appreciate the county dump. I contacted my boss so they could send someone to clean up the mess. I had to stay at the desk, however they sent a couple of young patrol officers to clean up that mess. The people I was with and I were blessed that the HVAC duct did not cause any disfigure to any of the evidence that was stored down there.
