What is the best temperature for the temperature control in the Winter?

Department of Energy.

Winter time can really be unpredictable, plus the season can really take a toll on us; If you live in a state that gets a lot of snow, it can be tough to do everyday tasks if there is too much snow outside. And if you have ever dug out a automobile from the snow, you would understand how daunting that task can be… Hence the reason, I have chosen to live in the Southern section of the country, during the Winter, every one of us don’t get any snow plus thankfully, the season is usually mild. Inside our home is also comfortable plus oftentimes, I barely use our central heating. During most of the Winter time the temperature in our home usually fluctuates between 65 plus 74 degrees, but there are times when it does drop down into the high 50s or lower 60s. Although rare, those are the times where our central heating unit kicks in. I have the temperature control set on the recommended temperature from the U.S. Department of Energy. According to the organization, the ideal temperature for the temperature control is 74 degrees when you are home; So, if I am having a mild Winter time season, it means that our central heating barely kicks in, however because I don’t use our central heating a lot during the colder section of the year, it means that I see a sizable saving on our energy bill. However, during the Summer, our central A/C runs every day. So, although I save on energy costs during the Winter, that savings is used to cover the cost of cooling our lake home in the Summer.
