There was no doubt the place had been sitting empty for a long time, maybe even years! The whole area had been abandoned after a chemical spill. That truckload of chemicals was cleaned up long ago, but the locals never returned. This area by the lake is traditionally a resort area where city folk come to relax for a week or two. Once the tourists stopped coming, the locals had no reason to stay here. This left a lot of very nice cabins sitting empty, which is where I come in. My friends and I wanted to have an adventure so we came here, looking for an air conditioned cabin we could break into and enjoy for a few days. It turned out there were several, in fact every cabin has some form of cooling system. Most of them had the window mounted A/C units, but a few of the larger ones used central systems. The problem was that the area had no electricity, so we had to bring in a gas powered generator to allow us to use the air conditioning. For that reason we picked a smaller cabin, because we were not sure if the little generator had enough juice to power a full sized central HVAC system. The weather was so hot, and the little air conditioner was only powerful enough to keep one room cool so that’s where we did all our partying! Some of us even threw blankets on the floor so we could sleep near the air conditioner, instead of sweating it out in one of the bedrooms.
