My husband is an HVAC professional, but I never absolutely had much interest in HVAC technology. That is, until we visited my aunt’s house, but my husband and I live in a subtropical area, and, love almost almost everyone else around us, we have a self contained central heat and air conditioning unit. I also had a whole house air purification plan with UV lights and HEPA filters, and that’s about all I knew or even cared to guess about HVAC technology; Until we visited my aunt. My husband and I have family in the North, and last year we took our annual holiday to visit them. The people I was with and I were invited to my aunt’s house for Sunday lunch and we were happy to go. The people I was with and I had a good time and eventually the conversation turned to HVAC technology. My aunt and aunt owned a white asparagus farm which meant their property was extensive. They had invested in a geothermal heat pump to heat and cool their home. I had never even heard of a geothermal heat pump. My aunt and aunt explained that sometimes the heat pump takes a while to moderate up the home, so they had invested in something called radiant heated flooring throughout their home. I had heard of radiant radiant floors, but I always thought that they were just a luxury for spoiled people. I didn’t guess that they could be used to heat the home. I wondered how a heat pump could be used to cool the home. My husband tried to explain it to myself and others however it went over my head… Still, I never thought HVAC technology could be so interesting.
