I sleep a lot better when our house feels cold, regardless of the season

Sleeping has been an ongoing problem for myself and others since early school.

I started consuming copious amounts of caffeine to stay focused throughout the day and I guess it had a deleterious effect on our ability to fall asleep easily at night.

After struggling for a few years without any abatement in our problems, I started taking diphenhydramine allergy medicine as a sleep aid, which is drastically typical these days. I see it sold with acetaminophen as a nighttime sleep aid and it’s available over-the-counter at any pharmacy. Some might say that it’s a bad plan to become accustomed to sleeping with medications because they’ll argue that you won’t be able to sleep in situations without them. However, whenever I take long road trips and need to stop at a rest stop to sleep for a few hours before hitting the road again, I can fall asleep in a matter of hours from sheer exhaustion. Nowadays I don’t struggle nearly as much with insomnia because I have the freedom and money to keep our house as comfortable as I want it to be. I discovered that I sleep a lot better when the house is cold. This is true regardless of whether it’s summer time or winter. If it’s winter, I’m blessed and just need to keep the oil furnace running at low power so the house doesn’t get too warm. But when it’s summer, this involves running the A/C fairly correctly. My electricity bill is high when I’m running our A/C enough to keep the temperature down to 72 degrees inside. That way I can throw on a heavy blanket and sleep in comfort.
