Learning about heating and cooling services

For the past fifteen years, I’ve been employed by a local HVAC company. When I first got hired, I knew absolutely nothing about heating or cooling systems or services. I got the job because of my secretarial skills. I run the front desk, answering the phones and scheduling service calls. My duties gradually expanded to include inventory, setting up maintenance plans and billing. While I am not licensed or certified to provide installation, maintenance or repairs, I’ve learned a lot about the industry. I can now discuss the various models of furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, air conditioners, high-velocity systems, ductless units, geothermal systems and VRF technology with our clients. I am able to explain the benefits of adaptable speed technology, wifi accessibility and zone control. I often recommend radiant floor heating and snow melt systems. Over the recent months, more of our clients are interested in hearing about indoor air quality accessories. I am happy to discuss the different advantages of air purifiers, germicidal UV lights, ventilators, humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Because the contractor I work for is a factory authorized dealer, we focus on one specific manufacturer. We’re able to offer very good warranty coverage, free estimates and a wide range of Energy Star rated options. I’ve seen that the majority of repairs are the direct result of insufficient upkeep. I always try to convince our clients to enroll in our maintenance program. It includes priority scheduling, no extra fees for after-hours service and a text message reminder when it’s time to set up a service call. I try my best to save our clients money and ensure the reliability of their heating and cooling system.
