After we left my mom’s, the car started to sputter

I wanted to move away from home when I turned 18.

  • I wanted space of my own and I wanted to live by myself.

I got an apartment and two of my friends moved in with me. I wasn’t by myself, but I wasn’t with my parents anymore either. I missed my mom a lot so I went back to see her almost every day. My friends and I went to see my mom when we were out running errands. A few weeks ago I stopped at my mom’s house and she was baking banana bread. It was almost ready to come out of the oven, so my friends and I sat down and waited for a fresh and hot piece of bread. My mom made us hot cocoa. It was cool outside and the warm treats felt great. The banana bread finished and we each had a big piece of the tasty and sweet confection. It was starting to get dark so my friends and I decided it was time to leave. We were halfway home when the car started to sputter. It started smoking too. Clearly there was some type of problem with the radiator. I pulled over to the side of the road so I could wait for the car to cool down. At least the car was still running so we could turn on the heater. The heater helps us with the cold temperatures. After the sun started to set, it became very cold and the heater was absolutely necessary. After the car cooled down, I put a gallon of water in the radiator and we continued on our way back home.
