Coming home for good to a house with residential HVAC

My parents call me their globe trotting son. This is because I’ve spent the past 25 years of my career in far away places doing work for developing economies. So while I wasn’t exactly jetsetting around the world by any means, I was a long, long way from home. But that part of my career is over and I’m back in the States. And just like when I visit, the very first thing that hit me was the HVAC cooling at the airport. It wasn’t even summer yet and I was freezing by the time I grabbed my bag at luggage claim. The first month, I stayed with my parents and again, I was freezing from all the air conditioning. I’d just spent nearly a quarter of a century in regions where residential HVAC was not a common thing at all. In fact, most modern central air conditioning only existed in government buildings or were for the rich. I lived in dwellings or apartments that had zero HVAC cooling. But the body is amazing and can acclimate. So coming home to live is going to come with the reverse acclimating when it comes to HVAC equipment. The place I bought was a small two bedroom that came with the latest in residential HVAC. While I wasn’t so worried about the HVAC cooling, I was glad to see that the SEER rating was super efficient. It’s been about a year now. While I still travel abroad for work, it’s pretty much quick trips of a week or two. But I’m still having a hard time getting accustomed to all the air conditioning in this country.
