Really I would rather work in a hot kitchen without a great cooling system than in a kitchen with a great air-conditioning system but I do not get along with my workmates
I don’t know how many of you have ever worked in a busy commercial kitchen but I have! It can be really hot in those! Especially if there is a lot of frying going. A big deep fat fryer can make the air quality in a kitchen terrible. I used to work by the fryer for hours at a time, doing french fries. The place had a commercial HVAC system, but when you are right by the fryer sometimes it does not matter. Some kitchens have better cooling systems than others too. This one was underground. I think that made it worse! We could not have a separate window air conditioner because we were in the basement. So not only would it get hot in there, but the air would be thick with oil. The extractor fans can only do so much. I never even wanted to think about what the air ducts looked like either. I would just try and not think about it. There was a thermostat in the kitchen, but I tried to not look at that. What good would it do for me? The funny thing is I had fun in that job, because I was working with pretty cool people. We would have fun on shift. Really I would rather work in a hot kitchen without a great cooling system than in a kitchen with a great air-conditioning system but I do not get along with my workmates. I have done both and I know what I prefer. I would take the good people every time.
