I’m getting overtime every time I leave the house

The summer weather is regularly hot and humid. Summer is the worst time to have a problem with your AC system. I have been an HVAC technician for the past 9 years. Because I live in the south, summer is always the busiest time of the year. I regularly work 12-hour days during the summer and I get lots of overtime. During the winter months, there aren’t as many calls for AC repairs, so I am not as busy. During the summer when I am working a lot of overtime, I make sure to put all of the extra money in the bank for the meager winter months. I’ve had a lot of opportunities to get overtime throughout the last week. One of my coworkers is on vacation and we are short-handed. I worked 12 hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The boss tried to send me home early on Thursday, but we had a last minute boiler repair for one of our commercial customers. When I got to work on Friday, I was all overtime. As soon as I clocked in, I thought about the money that I was making. I worked a long day on Friday as well and the boss told me that I was going to break the bank if I worked on the weekend. He found someone else to cover all of the emergency calls. It was supposed to be my weekend to work, but the boss did not want to pay me $40 an hour to answer the phone and handle emergency calls when he could pay a 2-year technician half the money to do the same exact job. I was happy to have the weekend off, especially after working nearly 70 hours during the week.
