Three customers complained about the same guy in the same day

I hired a new employee last week and I’ve already had several complaints about the guy.

I honestly thought he was going to work out. I had high hopes for the veteran HVAC repair technician with lots of experience in commercial and residential repairs. He had great letters of recommendation and I was impressed with his work history. The guy has 4 years of experience working on heating and AC related repairs. Unfortunately, the guy is not very friendly. I had three complaints this week from customers. Each one of the complaints were relatively the same. They complained about the guy’s attitude. Attitude is a big deal in this industry due to the fact that we have to service our customers. If they don’t call back, we don’t get repeat service and that means that our sales will be in the toilet. There are a lot of heating and air conditioning repair services and I want customers to call me first. After I got the first complaint about the guy’s attitude, I called him into the office and we had a talk about being more personable. The guy seemed to understand what I was saying, but the very next day I got multiple complaints from additional customers. I had to fix the problem, so that was the last time that I sent the guy out to work for me. I have a small business and it is important that all of the guys work hard and are nice to the customers. I have no room on my staff for a guy that can’t smile and be nice.
