Shade trees factor into keeping your home cool

I recently moved into a nice new lake home in an unquestionably nice neighborhood.

  • The housing development was recently established.

The properties have only been available to purchase for a year, however there are still multiple families already here & well established. I really like this sleek and modern home. I like the design & I appreciate the spaciousness. However, I know there were a lot of trees cut down! My other lake house was located near the edge of a small forest & my home was hemmed in by trees on all sides. I never really thought about the fact that this provided an ample amount of deep shade, which naturally made my lake house much cooler… Now that I live in an section that has a lot less shade, I have come to realize that my air conditioning unit did not have to job nearly as often in my previous home because of the shade. Though I like my modern home, the sun beats down on the lake house throughout the day, & it makes it significantly warmer than what I have gotten used to. The sunlight is also a little too intense for my liking. I will have to try & mitigate the ill effects of the direct sunlight on my windows by investing in heavy, dark curtains. I am sure this will help reduce the intense strain on my air conditioning & keep the home generally cooler & more comfortable, and periodically, you don’t ever realize that you are benefiting from something until you lose it. Like I said, I like the new house even though I still have to get used to the lack of shade.
