I worried about the street people.

I was watching the weather, and I heard we were to have some terrible weather in the next couple of days.

  • There were sub-freezing temperatures and a lot of snow heading our way.

I worked for some of the homeless shelters and took care of the HVAC systems. Unfortunately, the city didn’t have enough money to make sure the heating and air conditioning in the shelters were in good condition. I worried about the families that would be out in this weather, with nothing to keep them warm and safe. I knew two families that had little children, and I couldn’t justify my children being in a warm home with plenty of food when two families with kids their age had nothing. I went out onto the streets and I found Jonah and Marshall. I asked them if they had some place to stay with their families? Neither of the men had shelter for their families, but they were going to wait it out, along with their friends. I looked at the ragtag group of about fifteen people and I nodded. I went to the car and talked to my wife. She agreed they needed shelter with good heating and they needed food. I went to the shelters and worked on the HVAC systems to make sure they had good heating and would assure these families some place to stay, even through the day. A group of fifteen people came to my house with us. They had plenty of food, warm beds for everyone, and we had a great week with us all together. Everyone was grateful for the beds and the warmth of our furnace.
