The bathroom ventilation fan pulls all the heat out of the house.

I was house cleaning the other day, and I sanitized my bathroom. The smell of clorox was throughout the house, and it is not a scent that I like. I turned on the bathroom ventilation fan, hoping to pull the smell of clorox out of the house. Instead of removing the smells, it was getting rid of the heat. The furnace was constantly running and there was no heat to show for it. I could feel the draft in the house and I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. That’s when I realized the ventilation fan was still on high. I could feel the heat coming from the main part of the house and going out through the ventilation fan. I was sure this was a problem and the ventilation fan should not have been so strong. I called my husband and told him what had happened. He assured me the ventilation fan was doing exactly what it was supposed to do. Unfortunately, with the fan on high and the door open, the fan was strong enough to pull the heat out of the house. I closed the door, but the fan had already done its damage. I listened to the furnace running for almost an hour before the temperature came back up to normal. Who would have thought that a small bathroom vent fan could cause the furnace to run so hard? Next time I turn on the fan, the door will be shut tight, and I won’t need to hear the furnace running half the day.
