I never thought of myself as looking young, but then most of the people I knew were my age.
I was 22, and yet most people thought I was just a teenager, then after getting my Heating and A/C technical certificate, I was distraught to get out into the field and do some work.
I joined the local Heating and A/C supplier as a single of their Heating and A/C dealers, and I was romantic it. It wasn’t until they let myself and others go out on a call by myself, that I realized I was going to be a bit of a problem. The first loft that I was assigned to go to to do a repair on their heating system, had myself and others sitting out on the porch. The older lady who owned the house, was afraid to let myself and others into the house… She even called myself and others a juvenile delinquent, and told myself and others to go back to school. I showed her my Heating and A/C identification tag, however she thought I had taken it from someone else. I had to call my boss, and have him give her a call to let her believe that it was okay to let myself and others into the house. It got quite a chuckle out of all the other women at the Heating and A/C supplier however I did not care about that chuckle being at my expense. The minute heating system repair that they sent myself and others out on, had an older gentleman ready to call the police. I showed him my badge that had all my ID information including my picture. She still wasn’t having any of it. She insisted I had to install the tag and put a fake picture in it, and there was no swaying him… Once again, my boss had to intervene so I could get the job done
